Former Super Eagles CB, Taribo West has thrown his support behind the Super Eagles to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
West told Brila.net that Nigeria’s hope to reach the tournament is dependent on a win against Benin Republic and predicted a good outing happen.
“Everywhere is red all three countries want to qualify for the World Cup. It will be a very difficult one because everyone wants to represent Africa.
“The responsibility on the Super Eagles is not a small one. We need our best legs to play. We have to do our part so the Eagles can be there,” Taribo said.
He added that while the result between South Africa and Rwanda is out of Nigeria’s hands, the focus must remain on beating Benin Republic.
“Anything can happen in the other game. We just believe God will be on Nigeria’s side tomorrow and help us qualify.
“No matter what plans they have, it will fall. The man (Benin coach Gernot Rohr) understands us well, but by God’s grace, He will help us tomorrow.”
Assessing the teams on paper, the former defender believes the Super Eagles possess the quality to get the job done.
“On paper, Nigeria has the better side. Our market value and performances are higher and better than Benin’s.
“If they put in their best, not only will they beat Benin, but they can do it by a fair margin. Whatever happens in the other matches, we’ll know after our own job is done.”

Taribo also spoke in support of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who has received criticism after his recent mistake against Lesotho.

He urged fans to back the Chippa United man, insisting that one off day should not define his ability.
“You can’t condemn Nwabali for just one game. He has done well in other matches. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper.
“Sometimes goalkeepers have off days and may make mistakes that cost the team it happens. But that doesn’t mean he should be condemned for all his past achievements. I believe he will perform.”
