Nigeria’s Rofiat Imuran featured as London City Lionesses continued their impressive start to life in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with a 1-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday.
The 21-year-old defender, who has quickly become a key figure for the newly promoted side, was substituted later in the match and did not play the full 90 minutes as the Lionesses claimed a crucial derby win at Hayes Lane.
Veteran Swedish forward Kosovare Asllani scored the only goal of the game in the 68th minute, capitalising on a costly mistake from West Ham goalkeeper Kinga Szemik.
Szemik lingered too long on the ball, allowing Asllani to steal possession and calmly roll into an empty net, condeming Rehanne Skinner’s West Ham to their eighth consecutive league defeat.

The win lifted London City Lionesses into the top half of the table (6th position), recording their third victory in six league matches, which is a remarkable start for the newly promoted outfit.
Despite heavy defeats to Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City, the Lionesses have now beaten last season’s seventh, eighth, and ninth-placed sides — Liverpool, Everton, and West Ham — showing they belong among England’s elite.
West Ham’s Misery Deepens
For West Ham, however, the struggle continues. The Hammers remain bottom of the table and are yet to earn a single point since April, when they last won a league game; a 7-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
The Hammers registered 12 shots, including three on target, but failed to find the net, taking their tally to just two goals from 66 shots this season.
What’s Next?
London City Lionesses will host Leicester City in the Women’s League Cup on Sunday, 19 October, before facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 1 November.
West Ham, meanwhile, face a daunting trip to Manchester City on 1 November, as pressure mounts on Rehanne Skinner to find a solution to her team’s goal-scoring woes.
