Liverpool FC youngster Will Wright was forced off on a stretcher during the club’s recent UEFA Youth League clash against Atletico Madrid last week, with the striker appearing to have damaged his knee landing on the pitch leading to fears of a long-term layoff.
According to club connected journalist Lewis Steele in his Liverpool Confidential column for Mail Sport, though, a timeframe has now been put on the 17-year-old striker’s recovery. He reports that Wright is now expected to be sidelined “for five to seven weeks” with a medial ligament injury and of there being something of an air of “relief” as the immediate reaction to the injury was that it appeared as though could be something significantly worse.
After Giovanni Leoni’s likely season-ending injury earlier this week, a mid-November return is encouraging and very welcome news for another of the club’s youngsters. The player joined Liverpool in the summer, after having scored over 50 goals across youth football for Salford the season prior. Hopefully, Wright will be able to continue his development after getting over the setback.
