After opening up their season with a win over the Detroit Lions, the Green Bay Packers improved to 2-0 on the young season with another win over a 2024 playoff team, knocking off the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday Night Football.
Jordan Love threw a pair of touchdowns on the night, completing 19-of-31 passes for 292 yards and the pair of scores, as the Packers offense got into an early rhythm against the Washington defense. Tight end Tucker Kraft was dominant for Green Bay, hauling in six passes for 124 yards and this touchdown in the fourth quarter.
But after the game, some Packers fans had one person in mind to thank.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones:
Packers fans were all too willing to chant âThank you Jerryâ after the game, in reference to the Micah Parsons trade. And the newest Packer was there cheering them on.
But those fans were chanting with good reason. The recently acquired defender was again a game-wrecking force on Thursday night, slicing into the Commandersâ backfield early and often.
On this play from the third quarter, Parsons met at quarterback Jayden Daniels, along with Edgerrin Cooper, for this sack of the Washington passer:
What stands out on that play, as noted, is the inside move. As our dear friend JP Acosta noted on social media during the game, Parsons might move faster laterally than most do moving forward. That stands out on this snap as he explodes to the inside and pressures Daniels before the QB even finishes his drop.
Even when Parsons did not get home, he was disrupting the Commandersâ passing game. On this play, he slices inside of left tackle Laremy Tunsil, forcing Daniels off the spot and into an early throw:
And on this play, Parsons explodes through a pair of blockers, forcing Daniels into survival mode before he even finishes his drop:
And remember, Parsons is still not 100%, as he recovers from a back injury.
Thank you Jerry, indeed.
