Liverpool’s new defender has long been on Hughes’ radar
After Liverpool completed the long-rumored move for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, it became clear that the player had been on the radar of someone at Liverpool for quite some time.
Richard Hughes became Liverpool’s sporting director last summer, having been at Bournemouth. While working for the Cherries, he was crucial for Kerkez’s initial move there: when the Hungarian international made the swap to Merseyside, the relationship was therefore already established.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after his move, Kerkez acknowledged his relationship with Hughes and the role it played in his move:
“[Hughes was] Definitely a big part [of the move]. As everyone knows, he brought me to Bournemouth and was [a] big part why I came to Bournemouth. Obviously also [important] is the gaffer – I also had talks with him. I really knew when I talked to him and Richard that this is it for me, so that was my decision.”
