Liverpool have made their third major signing of the summer, agreeing the £40M transfer of 21-year-old Hungarian international left back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth as the Reds look to create separation from their rivals ahead of a title defence in 2025-26.
It’s a transfer that is seems fair to say absolutely everyone saw coming, with Kerkez reliably linked well back into the spring and both the player and his family open throughout about his desire to complete the move to Arne Slot’s Premier League champion Reds.
“Maybe I would say in May,” said Kerkez when asked exactly when it was that he began to feel certain that the deal he was very much hoping for was going to take place. “Coming close to the end of the season, [I knew] that it’s starting to get more serious.
“You know it’s Liverpool and you want to be a Liverpool player. I think it should be every kid’s dream. I was just waiting nearly every day. A couple of days ago, a week ago, [my father and agent] told me it’s falling good and that we are flying here this week.”
Flying in, passing his medical, and putting pen to paper on a five-year deal to formally complete his move. Next up, after a few weeks to rest and celebrate a successfully completed transfer, at least, are pre-season and a push for playing time and silverware.
“For me, there were no second doubts that I want to go somewhere else,” Kerkez added. “It was always Liverpool. When you come here, it’s the top of football. You’re going to see the people and everyone around the club—from food and training to the physios.
“You’re going to feel a completely different level, the highest level in football. And obviously I should come. So now here I am. I’ll go home and enjoy a few days and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to prepare for the season.”
