Liverpool are working to sign the Japan international midfielder to a new deal, but the regional rivals have the draw of Champions League play

It has been a quiet start to the summer transfer window for the Liverpool FC Women. The window officially opened last week on June 18, but there has been nary a peep out of the club on contract extensions for several key players or news of potential incoming players.

In fact, the only real news from a transfer front is that regional rivals Manchester United are interested in midfielder Fuka Nagano according to BBC reporter Emma Sanders. The Japan international has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining in January of 2023, but her contract expires at the end of June. The Reds had started negotiations with Fuka earlier this year, but a deal has yet to be agreed upon.

Liverpool could be in a difficult position to fend off interest from Manchester United for the services of Fuka Nagano. While the club has been discussing a new contract for some time now, not having a manager in place likely makes it difficult for Fuka, or any of the other players requiring a contract extension, to make an informed decision. In addition, Manchester United can off Champions League play next season after finishing third in the WSL this past season.
