The player had already been said to have agreed to terms with Bayer Leverkusen, and now the clubs have agreed to a fee

The busy summer for Liverpool FC is churning on as another deal is said to be done. After an signing Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, the Reds are said to have agreed to send a player to the German side this time.

Noted transfer rumor vulture Fabrizio Romano has stated that Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed on terms for young defender Jarell Quansah, and club connected journalist Paul Joyce has confirmed. The deal for Quansah had been progressing quickly over the past week with journalist David Ornstein reporting that the player reportedly agreeing to terms with Leverkusen on Friday. Other outlets were stating that a deal between the clubs was close as the weekend began, with a value of £35 million mooted as the transfer fee, a record fee for a defender for the German club.

Romano has said that the clubs are now settled on terms for a fee of £30 guaranteed and further £5 million in add-ons. An interesting wrinkle is that a buyback clause is part of the deal. The 22 year old defender broke through two seasons ago for Liverpool and is widely regarded as a top young player, but minutes are hard to come by with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté as the regular starters. The move to Leverkusen will allow Quansah to earn a regular starting role and set up a potential reunion with the Reds down the road.

Quansah is currently away on duty with the England U21s, so a medical will take place after the competition is concluded. Quansah and the Three Lions defeated Spain in the quarterfinals on Saturday, setting up a semifinal match with the Netherlands. The defender set up the winning goal, putting a shot on goal that was saved, but the rebound was turned home by Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool will almost certainly sign a center back to replenish depth at the position with the oft-injured Joe Gomez the only cover. The Reds have reportedly shown interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi, but a deal for a younger player may also be in the cards.
