Liverpool’s newest record-breaking signing Florian Wirtz is excited to reunite with his once and future teammate, Jeremie Frimpong.
In case you missed it, Liverpool completed the signing of their record-breaking signing Florian Wirtz yesterday. It was the second of at least three signings this summer, with Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez expected through the doors at any moment.
There are a lot of reasons to be excited about Wirtz, but for players and fans alike, it’s especially exciting to see both him and his teammate at Bayer Leverkusen, Jeremie Frimpong, lining up together in the foreseeable future. The two were often electric at Leverkusen, and it’s a connection that everyone is interested in seeing again at Liverpool.
“I played, I think, three or four years with him,” Wirtz said of Frimpong during his introductory interview with the club, “He’s a really good player, a really good person, a really funny guy. Good for every changing room and also on the pitch, big qualities to attack and to defend.
“I think it’s a really nice thing that we can play together again at a new club, at maybe a bigger club, and make the move together. I’m really looking forward to standing on the pitch with him again.”
Frimpong also helped Wirtz off the pitch in an important way, especially when making the move to England: he helped him sprechen sie talk (English).
“Yes, he was my neighbour in the changing room, he sat directly next to me and I had to speak English with him. After I finished my school, I didn’t speak really good English but he was teaching me a lot and making me speak in more English and better English.”
Thanks for putting in the hard yards on this one, Jeremie, and helping Florian adjust to life in England before he even knew he wanted to come to Liverpool.
