The wheels turned really quickly here.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool FC and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed on a deal for Jarrel Quansah. The 22-year-old centre-back will move to Germany for a vague-sounding €30m plus add-ons, with a contract until 2030.

The young English centre-back broke through into the Liverpool squad in Jürgen Klopp’s final season, displacing Ibrahima Konaté for much of that season. In Arne Slot’s new season, it was a totally different experience, with Quansah never looking like he had the Dutchman’s trust, being hooked at half-time in the opening league fixture, and then playing sporadically, often filling in at right-back when both Trent No Last Name and Conor Bradley were injured.

It’s a deal that mostly makes sense… if the head coach doesn’t like a player enough to play him, it really doesn’t matter how promising he is because he’s not going to play enough to fulfil his potential. He probably feels he’s at an age where game time is crucial for his development. From the reports last night, it looks like Liverpool are already moving swiftly to replace Jarell. Meanwhile, Leverkusen get a young, promising centre-back who can replace Jonathan Tah. Win-win for both. We wish you all the best in Germany, Jarell. YNWA.
