Forward, Cyriel Dessers has been crowned Rangers’ top scorer for the 2024/25 season, after an eventful but ultimately rewarding campaign in Scotland.

Dessers picked up the prestigious Sam English Bowl at the Rangers Player Awards Ceremony on Sunday night, a prize given to the club’s highest goalscorer of the season.

The 30-year-old striker has netted 24 goals across all competitions for the Light Blues this term, while also providing seven assists.

His most recent goal came during Rangers’ 2-2 draw with St Mirren on Saturday, underlining his continued importance to the team’s attack.

Dessers succeeds captain James Tavernier, who claimed the top scorer award last season.

It was a night of recognition at the event, with Nico Raskin scooping the Player of the Season award, while Moroccan youngster Hamza Igamane claimed both the Goal of the Season and Young Player of the Season honours.

Despite ending the campaign with solid numbers, it has not been an easy ride for Dessers.

The former Cremonese man endured a turbulent season marked by criticism and inconsistency.

He was frequently under scrutiny from Rangers supporters, faced questions over his performances.

There were reports linking him with a move away from Glasgow, and in November, Dessers temporarily lost his starting place to Hamza Igamane.

However, showing commendable resilience, he fought back to reclaim his role as Rangers’ first-choice forward.

Now with just four games left in the Scottish Premiership season, Dessers will be eager to finish strongly and help Rangers close out the campaign on a positive note being second on the table.

As the summer transfer window approaches, questions remain about his future at the club.

Whether he stays or seeks a new challenge elsewhere, Dessers’ achievement this season will serve as a reminder of his quality and determination under pressure.
