Former Nigerian international, Sunday Oliseh has called for the inclusion of more players from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Oliseh made this known via his official X handle (formerly know as Twitter), where he kicked against Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that had only three NPFL players.
Expressing his opinion on the matter, Oliseh wrote on his X account, “If we had superstars like in the 90’s and early 2000’s playing at the top world club-sides, champions league, etc, one could understand the absence of home-based players in a 406-man call-up.”

He further added, “Haba, they just want to eliminate everything that is home-based in favor of football business! It’s time we acted!!”
It remains to be seen if the trio will make the final 27-man squad for the tournament.
Recall that on Thursday, Odion Ighalo voiced his disappointment regarding the limited inclusion of local players in the Super Eagles’ provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ighalo, a prominent figure in Nigerian football, believes that home-based players deserve greater representation in the national team. His comments highlight a broader discussion about the balance between local and foreign-based players in national football squads.
