The Welsh left back becomes the latest summer signing for the Reds
The Liverpool FC Women have begun preseason preparations on the pitch, kicking off training sessions last week. There is plenty happening behind the scenes as well as the club look to continue to flesh out the squad and identify a new manager.
On Monday, the Reds addressed priority position of need when they announced the signing of left back Lily Woodham. The Welsh defender becomes the fourth new signing of the summer, joining goalkeeper Rafaela Borgraffe and midfielders Sam Kerr and Kirsty Maclean.
Woodham joins Liverpool from NWSL club Seattle Reign. She spent last year on loan at Crystal Palace, who were relegated from the WSL at the end of the season. She joins countrywomen Ceri Holland and Gemma Evans as part of the Welsh contingent at the club. The 25 year old has amassed 40 senior team caps for her country.
Woodham expressed her excitement on her new adventure with Liverpool after signing her contract. She said she is settling in quickly thanks to how welcoming everyone around the club and community has been.
“It’s amazing. Obviously I’m a fan of Liverpool, so it’s a dream come true really. I’m really excited to meet everyone. It already feels like a home from home and everyone has been so nice to me and welcomed me. I just want to bring everything I can to the team and always give my all in games and training.”
She also revealed that she had spoken with Wales teammates Ceri Holland and Gemma Evans while they were at the Euros earlier this summer. Woodham said her new club teammates described the welcoming vibe perfectly.
“I had a few conversations with them and they said how much they love it here and how incredible the staff and the team are. I’ve had a look around the facilities and it is amazing. You kind of get that friendly feel and as soon as I walked in here I was like, ‘Oh yeah, now I get what they meant and how nice everyone is.’ The atmosphere and the vibe, it’s just been so nice to be around on day one. It has been amazing.”
