A move for Newcastle star striker Alexander Isak seems a long shot at best but the transfer chatter has the Reds not having given up on the potential mega-deal.

Through the 2024-25 season, as Liverpool cruised to the Premier League title, securing their 20th domestic league title in Arne Slot’s first year in charge, perhaps the one weakness in an otherwise world class squad appeared to be at striker.

Darwin Nuñez, talented but inconsistent even at his best, took a step back. Diogo Jota’s injury record headed in the wrong direction. At times, an out of position Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai looked the best options for manager Arne Slot.

The question, then, was what might happen at the position in the off season. There were occasional links with Newcastle United’s 25-year-old Swedish star striker Alexander Isak, but his cost always seemed likely to be prohibitively high.

Add in Newcastle’s public reluctance to deal after securing a Champions League place and Liverpool’s mega-money move for Florian Wirtz and, for most, the idea of a move for Isak—or any big money striker, perhaps—was taken off the table.

However, according to Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport, Liverpool haven’t given up on Isak. In fact, Liverpool are said to be so enamoured by Isak that they’re fully prepared to break the British transfer for a second time this summer to get him.

For their part, of course, Newcastle would likely still resist the sale with the Saudi-owned sportswashing project needing players like Isak in the mix if they’re to establish themselves as a force in England and Europe in the coming seasons.

As such, short of more reliable reporting on the matter we’re going to remain very, very skeptical. And if it somehow does turn out that Isak to Liverpool is on, we’ll be laughing our asses off that as with Wirtz, it appears IndyKaila got to it first.
